As one of more than 2,700 participants, our PI Bernhard Bauer spent last week at the International Medieval Congress in Leeds (UK). In Session 1237, organised by ARITHMETIC, he presented "'Put from you! Comparing Vernacular and Latin Idioms for Arithmetical Instructions from the Early to the Late Medieval Period". In this lecture, Bernhard Bauer combined preliminary results from GlossIT and ARITHMETIC and highlighted an interesting phenomenon in connection with subtractions in medieval manuscripts: the use of imperatives. In the Celtic languages as well as in Latin and German, verbs from the semantic field of “throwing/giving (away)” are used. At the end of the year, the lecture will also be published as an article in a special issue of the journal "Fokus Kloster. Lebens- und Wissensräume religiöser Kulturen". Until then, you can enjoy the presentation in the GlossIT Zenodo Community.
